Many of us step into non-monogamy carrying a set of normative rules, handed down by family, stories about how love is supposed to work. Either way, these rules are engrained into our lives, whether we realise it or not. We can, however, question and challenge them, and ultimately create new models which work for us.
The Relational Compass is a half-day values-led polyamory workshop on unpacking the values which lie underneath the rules and their meaning to us. Across three and a half hours you will uncover rules you inherited, decide which you want to keep in your life, and build a personal relational compass which:
- Reflects your values.
- Guides you in a conflict situation.
- Sheds light on jealousy.
- Tells you how to navigate change.
- Identifies signs of you being out of alignment with your values.
What we will do
We'll map the rules you have been given about relationships, from family, media, community and everywhere else and work out if they are needed.
We'll work on unlearning the rules that do not reflect your values.
You'll create your own relational compass, including core values, how you navigate conflict, jealousy and change.
We'll Explore how new learnings can be practised going forward.
What to expect
- A small group of about 6-14 people.
- Writing, reflection and honest conversation in pairs and small groups.
- Practical worksheets you keep and take home.
- A co-created set of agreements.
- Space to share as much or as little as you want.
Who it is for
Anyone new to non-monogamy, re-evaluating how they practise, or simply wanting more clarity on where their relationships are heading. You do not need to be polyamorous, partnered or sure of anything. Every relationship structure is welcome.
What is Polystation?
Polystation is a space for discussion, learning and community for people exploring non-monogamy and different ways of doing relationships. Through workshops, events and shared conversation, we question inherited ideas about love and commitment, learn from lived experience and explore how to build more intentional relationships.
Our regular meet up has been running for almost two years, the last Wednesday of every month at the Common Press Dalston.
