Would you read your teenage diary aloud to a room full of people?
>>> During COVID-19 the "room" will be an online space. Stay safe! <<<
A brave group of LGBTQIA+ folx are doing just that at QUEER DIARY - the night where queers share our teen angst (and joy, dreams, follies, and fabulousness).
We can't promise to reunite you with your first crush, but we do aim to reignite that rush of adrenaline you got when they first noticed you existed.
Join us in a cosy teenage dreamworld, where adult troubles melt like lemon-drops as we focus on what was obsessing us all those years (or even decades) ago.
In here the goths, the punks, the emos, the nerds, the glee-clubbers, and a few previously-closeted populars come together as grown-ups, to escape cis-het-normativity by sharing our younger selves' innermost secrets, and possibly the odd bit of cringey poetry.
Queer Diary is hosted by Beth Watson, who will also be taking song requests of your favourite teenage nostalgia tracks to play between readings.
Tickets to this event are free, with an option to donate. Donations to ‘Queer Diary’ will be split between funding this project, and Free2B - a London-based community organisation supporting LGBTQIA+ young people.
If you want to find out more, or take part in Queer Diary by reading your teenage diaries (or poetry, or fanfic etc) in the future, please fill out this form.
(Queer Diary was originally inspired by Helen Black's night, 'Dear Diary')

How the online event will work:
Due to COVID-19 this event will be via Zoom.us (the online meeting platform). Everyone with a ticket will be sent a link to join the Zoom room - all you need to join is either your smartphone or a laptop with internet connection.
You can join the Zoom from 7pm and will have plenty of time before the event starts to check your connection and say hello before the before readings begin. We particularly recommend arriving early if you have playlist requests so we can line them up!
You will be encouraged (but not required) to use the chat box, reaction emojis, and your camera and/or microphone to interact with other people participating in this event. Your level of engagement is entirely up to you.
Access:
We are aiming to make these events more accessible to more people. As a bare minimum we will provide auto-captions, ask all readers to self-describe, and the host will voice comments from the chat box.
We are currently looking into better options than auto-captioning (live captioning/BSL), so will update this page & announce on social media as and when these become available.
Please get in touch if there's anything else we can do/provide to make Queer Diary more accessible for you.
