CROSSING BRIDGES (Canada, 2016) 19mins
In this reflective documentary, filmmaker Rama Luksiarto reflects on the challenges that he faced as a gay Asian man coming as an immigrant from Indonesia to Canada and his problems of embracing his sexuality, identity and culture.
HONG KONG TRANSGENDER STORIES (Hong Kong, 2016) 20mins
6 transmen and transwomen living in Hong Kong talk about the issues they faced in their families, at work and in society before, during and after their transition.
I WALK ALONE (South Africa, 2017) 30mins
This documentary tells the story of three LGBTQ+ people who fled to South Africa in the hope of a better and more secure life, and of how they are treated in the country whose constitution explicitly prohibits discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.
ROMA BOYS: THE LOVE STORY (Czech Republic, 2010) 30mins
Czech Roma activist David Tišer tell his own story in this film of how his standing in the Roma community as a Roma rights activist was threatened by his coming-out. It’s a vibrant and colourful film about love and activism, throwing a light on the situation of Roma LGBTIQ people.
The programme will also include a few short clips from the programme FILM, FUN AND FURY by US Lesbian activist and filmmaker Krissy Mahan
Rainer Schulze is Emeritus Professor of Modern European History and Human Rights at the University of Essex. From 2017 to 2019 he curated and hosted the LGBTQ+ film programme “Tales from the Margins” for Latest TV Brighton.
Proceeds go to the SAVE THE CINEMA MUSEUM CAMPAIGN. Ticket also provides entry to the GLF AT 50; THE ART OF PROTEST exhibition, on now in the same building.
