For the last few years, it's felt like you can't go more than a couple of days without reading a new story about trans people. More often than not, these stories talk about us and not to us. We know how difficult it's been for many in our communities dealing with so much spotlight on, and misunderstanding about, our lives.
We want to change things.
Join us for a half-day workshop where we will talk about where the media conversation is now, and where we want it to go. Get creative and think about the sorts of media coverage you wish you did see about trans people. Learn more about how to talk to the general public and media about trans lives. And most importantly, help us imagine what a new conversation could look like.
Who is this workshop for?
It's for trans people aged 16+ living in Scotland.
Because we know that the media talks about trans people in different ways we're asking a few more questions about you. Conversations about trans women, trans men, and non-binary people look very different. Trans people who are marginalised in multiple ways, maybe because they’re disabled and trans, or a trans person of colour, may be even more misrepresented or misunderstood. Because there are limited spaces at this workshop, we want to make sure that all different kinds of trans people who want to take part are able to. You’ll get a confirmation to let you know that a space is being held for you, but we may end up having to give your space to someone else, depending on who is interested in taking part. We’ll let everyone know two days before the event if they’re definitely able to take part.
If you are aged 13-25, and want to attend a workshop more focused on how the media talks about trans young people, you should register for the partner event co-hosted with our friends at LGBT Youth instead
