A little bit about Bhangra:
Bhangra is a folk dance based in the state of Punjab (Pakistan & India). In this workshop we learn the various sub sectors of Bhangra, the foundations, the modern versions and so much more. My aim is always to share the knowledge I have but also to have fun. To create a supportive community and to bring everyone together through this — my culture
A little about me:
I have been teaching for now over 10 years. Mainly for Bollywood, Bhangra, Contemporary and Street Dance Companies. I also used to be a faculty/ regular dance teacher at Danceworks, Pineapple and Base Dance Studios. Alongside teaching I have been a performer and worked for choreographers such as Gary Lloyd, Brian Friedman and recently assisting Anthony Von Laast in a feature movie.
My background or "training" in dance was very unconventional. I grew up in Holland and Pakistan where I started with watching Bollywood movies, learning the dances from the movies. Slowly then sneaking away from home and learning from friends nearby who were a bit more experienced in classical and folk styles. Then when I came to the UK I trained more in Contemporary, Jazz, Street, Modern and other fusion styles.
Bhangra is a very close style to my heart especially being mixed Punjabi Pakistani and Turkish. For me this class is about connecting with the culture more and sharing that with you.
