Well Birmingham, it’s finally here - a highly cultural evening devoted to the magical powers of amyl nitrate as we present FISTER ACT and DEEP SNIFF: A POPPERS DOUBLE HIT.
Featuring the midlands premiere of Fatt Butcher’s new musical Fister Act, an autobiographical musical about my inability to get past the knuckles (inspired, I know). Fatt will be joined by Adam Zmith (he/him) author of DEEP SNIFF: A History of Poppers and Queer Futures who will read extracts of his book and join Fatt for a Q&A on poppers, performance, and the power of queer community.
ABOUT FISTER ACT:
Fister Act, is a life-affirming queer fantasy adventure through time, space, bodies, and brains. Join intergalactic sexpot and non-binary drag icon in the making, Fatt Butcher, as we journey beyond the knuckles, battle our demons, and free ourselves from shame with the help of an enchanted bottle of poppers and the disembodied voice of Liza Minelli.
With an original score of synth-pop electro musical theatre (think Bohemian Rhapsody in space) and kaleidoscopic visuals, Fister Act is a cult classic in the making. Oh, and it’s strictly BYOP – bring your own poppers!
ABOUT DEEP SNIFF:
3, 2, 1... inhale, deep. Adam Zmith reveals the long history of a quick rush. Deep Sniff explores the startling connections between Victorian infirmaries, Studio 54 and cam sex subcultures — and the queer potential inside us all. In Deep Sniff, what starts as a thoughtful enquiry into poppers becomes a manifesto for pleasure.
Adam Zmith is co-producer on The Log Books podcast, and co-director of the podcast production company Aunt Nell. Adam programmes literature events for Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest. His non-fiction book Deep Sniff: A History of Poppers and Queer Futures came out in September 2021 from Repeater Books.
Copies of Deep Sniff will be available to purchase on the evening.
Strictly 18+, contains references to sex and drug use throughout.
