Description of the space at The Apple Tree
Dykes on Mics takes place in the function room on the first floor of The Apple Tree. The staircase is on the right when you enter the pub at ground level. The function room is up 24 winding stairs with a handrail. When you enter the function room, there is a small bar on your right and there will be a small table on your left with a door person who will check your name off the list, or sell you a ticket on the door if you don't have one. The stage is at the front of the room and is about one meter high, four meters wide and three meters long. There are 2 steps up to the stage on its right side. There is a speaker on either side of the stage. There will be music playing for about an hour before the karaoke starts, then two hours of karaoke, then music playing again for about an hour after the karaoke. Gender-neutral bathrooms are to the left of the stage, there is a small shared sink area and a small private toilet cubicle on either side of the sink. The function room has a few benches at the back, one or two small tables and four or five chairs that are always on the floor. There are also several stacks of chairs in front of the bathroom that guests can take and move around as they want. The capacity of the room is 70 people standing.
