‘By George, they’re Starkers!’: Queer Nude Body-Positive Life-Drawing
Join us at Burgh House for the continuation of our first annual Queer Georgian Social Season as we take you back to a time when queers were more visible and accepted than you thought.
One quick & efficient way to deny a culture and to rewrite its history is to destroy its art. Considering how much queer-coded art was destroyed and hidden over the centuries by various religious & political forces, it is amazing that so much of it still exists. Classical examples of the [nude] physical ideal as displayed by 'prototype' figures such as the naked faun, nymph, satyr, warrior, god, and goddess – for which popularity reached fever pitch during the Georgian Era – provide us with a crucial key to LGBT+ identity handed down to us through the ages by the ancients, in turn establishing the centrality of the original classical nude (as well as the classical nude as interpreted by humankind since the ancients) within the historical development of the LGBT+ community.
This enlightening evening at Burgh House will feature queer nude body-positive life-drawing sessions featuring 3 expert models posed in the Georgian style and tutoring, run by Roy Joseph Butler’s 'Packed Lunch Productions' – accompanied by live Georgian-era music performed by soloists from 'Les Bougies Baroques'.
All you are required to do is leave your preconceptions at the door, grab yourself a drink from the bar and and let you creativity flow. Now experience is nessesary and materials will be provided.
