The Poetry of our everyday LGBTQ+ Lives: A Creative Writing Workshop with Dr Yewande
Please join us on the 18th of November for a relaxed afternoon of poetry, conversation, and coffee, led by Dr. Yewande Okuleye. Centred on the theme of ‘breakthrough’, in this two-hour workshop participants will explore guided meditation and breathwork as an introduction to creative writing. Dr Yewande will then provide excerpts poetry, prose, images, and newspaper cuttings which which to explore the theme and invite participants to share their own thoughts and experiences, and from there to shape their responses into written form. Finally there will be a short poetry and spoken word performance where everyone will be encouraged (though not obliged!) to share their work through, incorporating play and improvisiation if they wish. The Common Press is a queer, intersectional bookshop which centres marginalised voices. The bookshop is fully wheelchair accessible and service-animal friendly, and we would encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to come along and be welcomed.
