Please join us for an LGBT+ History Month special on the 10th of February, as we explore queer families across generations with visual artist, editor, and writer Anna Fux.
Same Same, But Different is an intimate portrait of two chosen families, separated by forty years, yet united by relationship between the artist Anna Fux and her gay filipino uncle, Nelly.
The book is a visual and written invitation to their queer immigrant of colour experiences, and embodies a tender dialogue covering queerness, biological and chosen families, race, and migration. This publication celebrates one of the most recognisable yet at invisibilized communities.
Anna Fux (she/they) is a queer German-Filipina visual artist, editor and writer. Her practice intersects cultural criticism, photography, antirracism and LGBTQIA+ archival work. She co-founded Pai Pai Mag, the first online magazine for the spanish speaking Asian diaspora. In 2021 she was one of the artists in residency at Matadero Madrid, which resulted in Same Same But Different. The book was shortlisted by PhotoEspaña as one of the best photobooks of the year.
Guests are welcome to arrive at our bar, Common Counter, from 6.30pm. The event will begin at 7.30pm. Please note that it will take place in our event space, which is not currently wheelchair accessible. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Copies of Same Same But Different will be available to purchase in the bookshop afterwards.
