Simon has recently published his book The Celts: A Sceptical History, and it is that which will be the topic of his talk to us.
Simon Jenkins is a prolific writer, author, columnist and editor, whose interests are wide ranging and whose opinions are often challenging. I have no doubt that he will give us a first-class talk.
And how could he not?
An Oxford graduate, who has worked for Country Life, The Times Educational Supplement, The Evening Standard (being its editor from 1976–78), The Sunday Times, The Economist and The Times as editor, and now as a columnist for the Guardian, his experience and knowledge of current affairs is second to none.
His chairmanship of the National Trust from 2008 took him in yet another direction. The subject matter of his books includes politics, history and English architecture, and titles include England’s Thousand Best Churches, England’s Thousand Best Houses, A Short History of England and finally, in 2022, The Celts: A Sceptical History.
Public appointments have included serving on the board of British Rail and London Transport, being a member of the Millennium Commission, serving on the board of the Architecture Foundation and being deputy chairman of English Heritage.
So come and join us for what will be a memorable evening.
