Local Plymouth promoters A Press of Suspects {presents} have teamed up with Soapbox Children’s Theatre to bring new Mum’s and Dad’s some much needed comic relief!
The unique event will take place at 11am on Friday 28th April and will feature professional comics performing their normal club sets for new parents who can’t get out at night!
Becoming a parent is a wonderful journey with many highs and lows. It can be an overwhelming and, at times, isolating experience. Comedy can be used to help build a sense of connection and also relieve symptoms of poor mental health. This show aims to help parents reconnect with their adult selves, an experience that is for them as opposed to their children.
Babies, children 2 and under, breastfeeding and general chaos are all welcome but please bear in mind there will be occasional swearing and adult themes.
Our next line up is an absolute belter:
Trevor Lock: Trevor tours the world with his genre defying live comedy happenings.
Before that Trevor starred in all three seasons of BAFTA nominated and British Comedy Award winning Star Stories , both seasons of BBCs TMWRNJ with Lee and Herring and the Steve Coogan produced Brain Candy. As a stand up he’s toured with Stewart Lee, Russell Brand and Paul Foot and let his spare room to James Acaster and Josh Widdecombe. He’s also addressed The Oxford Union on The Meaning of Life. He runs an ongoing mental health and creativity workshop called Reality Games and a coaching program for comedians of all levels called Joke Hospital.
The Scotsman has described his work as ‘Funny, moving and clever.’ TimeOut, simply as ‘hilarious’ and culture website Spoonfed thought he could ‘probably win an award for the most laughs in a minute.’ London Is Funny wrote “He has a totally unique wellspring of material. In a different class really.” The Sunday Times wrote of the ‘superbly comic writing’ of his plays on the Edinburgh Fringe. Kate Moss simply said “He walks like Dudley Moore and he talks like Peter Cook.” Most of his recent shows are now free form improvised “events” or happenings such as Community Circle “the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off.” NOT TO BE MISSED
Suzy Bennet: A born and bred Plymouthian! Former Butlins Redcoat and proud Devonian Suzy ‘accidentally’ won an award on her 6th gig and has kept the laughs, and her accent, going strong ever since, performing around the UK as well as overseas. She is the voice of the ‘Plymouth Trails’ Tour app and was recently named as one of the ‘50 Coolest people from Plymouth’ by the Evening Herald (It was in no particular order so she assumes she came third after Dawn French and Wayne Sleep).
All hosted by:
Willtordian Ballorian Edwardian: The baby of the bunch moved to Plymouth 4 years ago and performed his first ever stand up set in the city. A man with a penchant for owls and a celebration of the absurd silliness of life! Expect chaos, music, prizes and owls....
