Join Lu Williams of Grrrl Zine Fair to create zines calling for understanding and awareness of Endometriosis. Zines are self published, often handmade mini magazines. They have historically been made to platform stories ignored by mainstream publishing and give space to marginalized individuals and their communities. Zines have a rich history of questioning the status quo, from the punk rock fanzines in the 1970s to feminist zines of the 90's centered on taking up space and reclaiming narratives.
In this workshop you'll work alongside Grrrl Zine Fair to create your own 'perzine' - a personal zine reflecting you, your experience and information around Endometriosis. We'll discuss Endo, awareness of the condition and personal stories through zines as a way to share our experience, raise awreness and form community.
All materials will be provided, however any extra materials you'd like to bring along, such as photographs, poetry or writing to add to your zine, is encouraged.
This event is part of our endometriosis exhibition which is on 4 November 2023 - 3 March 2024. You can find more information here:

Grrrl Zine Fair started in 2015 by artist Lu Williams as a way to pull together feminist self-publishing events, workshops, and zines. We look after the Grrrl Zine Library, a queer and feminist zine library based in Southend and print 'Grrrl In Print', a biannual zine of feminist culture.
Please note: Partipcants don't have to have the condition, but will be encouraged to discuss the topic openly and create zines on this theme, for sharing with the community and visitors to The Vagina Museum. Participants will keep their zines, but images may be taken of work, should you consent.
