CLASS DESCRIPTION
Post AI Pornography is a lecture that responds to the ever-emergent question will AI ruin the porn industry…
From a historical and wide-focus lens that attempts to identify cycles in technology and human behavior, this lecture will analyse trends leading up to the explosive 2024 boom of accessible generative systems, and explores how "AI art" and chatbots have changed what people expect and want from adult content. From HarmonyAI to Smarterchild, the class will look at the history of people having intimate relationships with chatbots as far back as the 1990's, previous forms of generated/fantasy figures in adult content, and whether or not AI has substantially changed internet economics and what people are willing to pay for when it comes to adult content.
In this lecture, we will also consider AI porn in the context of consent practices and IP law, mapping out relative legal frameworks that could potentially be used in regulation while highlighting potential risks of overreaching obscenity law that could be applied to "real person" adult content creators and providers. Obscenity law is often used to override legislation protecting basic rights and freedoms, and most frequently gets applied to already marginalized people like women, queer people, people of color, sex workers, and those who intersect with multiple of those identity points.
