The South London branch of rs21 is convening a meeting in Southwark for organisers that want the new party to build real power in our communities.
The new party cannot be a boring replay of the same old parliamentary politics. We need it to be a vehicle for building power in our communities. The South London branch of rs21 is convening a meeting to discuss a strategy for the new left party that fights for workers, tenants, and communities facing skyrocketing rents, collapsing public services and a hostile environment for migrants.
As a group of 60 organisers across South London, we don’t feel it is our place to form a proto branch of the new party for Southwark. However, we do feel that it’s right for us to convene a group, representative of different organisations and communities, to discuss forming a branch on the basis of a shared strategy. That strategy should be one of building real power, real agency, and long-lasting democratic institutions.
This free event will be an opportunity to discuss exactly how that strategy should look in Southwark (and South London more generally), build familiarity between people who support such a strategy, and plan the next steps for putting these ideas into action ahead of the Autumn congress of the new party.

N/B. about this event: the event is being planned to allow for plenty of discussion between attendees (rather than being structured around contributions from ‘top table’ speakers) and with a view to all of us organising together going forward. Whilst rs21 South London are hosting this and setting the terms of initial meeting(s), our hope and intention is to widen this out to a collaborative project.
