Where were you ten years ago? What was life like in 2015?
So much can change in a decade which probably sounds like a really obvious thing to say but it’s true; on an individual level but also for entire communities.
Here’s a few reminders of 2015 to nudge your memory…
Ten years ago same sex marriage had been legal in the UK (NI?) for less than a year.
Adele made a come back with the line ‘Hello, it’s me’. The Brexit vote hadn’t happened.
For me personally in 2015 I went to Glastonbury for the first time. I moved back to Barking to live with my Nan after a mental breakdown.
Ten years ago in Barking there were a lot less new builds. I’m not sure anyone was calling it up and coming.
Ten years ago in Barking a man was finally arrested for murdering four young men he’d met through Grindr. It became clear that he could have been stopped sooner if it hadn’t been for constant failings by the police, in part caused by institutional homophobia.
Some of these things are easy to look back and reflect on and some of them might feel easier to push to the back of our minds.
This event, part discussion, part creative workshop is an opportunity to reflect on how things have changed for us as people, a chance to reflect on where we’ve come from and also to remember what was lost. There is space for joy, grief, laughter and photos of our dodgy 2015 hairscuts and outfits if we want to share.
This event is co-facilatated by Matty May & Grace Duggan as part of an &Friends Productions project.
Food and drinks will be provided.
We have to look back to move forward.
