We want freedom - How can the new left party fight state violence and repression?
The British state’s mounting repression in the face of legitimacy crises represents a threat to the working class, its ability to organise and wage class struggle. From the crime and policing bill to the designation of direct action groups as terrorist organisations the state continues to clamp down on dissent. However the new party provides a rare opportunity for us to campaign for a future free of state repression, an opportunity which we cannot miss.
Join us and Shanice McBean to discuss how we can take advantage of this moment to ensure that the new party contains a radical and necessary conversation around how we combat carceralism and state authoritarianism. This talk will feature an introduction from Shanice, a murmur in breakout groups and a report back/Q&A.
Shanice McBean is a writer and activist, she co-authored the British abolitionist book: ‘Abolition Revolution’ in 2022. More of her work can be found on her substack or for the rs21 website.
