What is trans lifedrawing?
Trans Lifedrawing is a new fundraising event bringing together trans models, teachers and participants to witness and celebrate trans bodies. Together, using fun drawing exercises we'll draw from real life as models hold various poses at the front of the room. We'll get out of our heads and into the creative flow!
Join us for an evening of playful creativity, connection and joy. All proceeds go to Five for Five, a collective fund for trans women, girls and transfem causes in the UK.
Essential information
Here are a few things to note before signing up:
- Lifedrawing is all about capturing the human form, so models will be nude or semi-nude.
- You don't have to have any drawing experience - everyone is welcome.
- This class is facilitated so you'll be guided every step of the way.
- All the equipment you'll need is provided e.g. paper, pencils, erasers.
- This event is for trans people only. This is a trans+ only event, this includes transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, agender, intersex people. By purchasing a ticket you confirm that you are a trans+ person.
- You can make a donation by selecting ‘Donation: cover the cost of a ticket ❤️' - cis allies, this one's for you!
- Nude modelling is an incredible gift to us as creatives, one that must be valued and respected. Please read the full list of groundrules at the bottom of this text area and if you cannot comply with them, respectfully, do not attend.
Accessibility
- Wheelchair access: This event is on the 2nd floor, above a bar. There is one flight of stairs and no lift.
- Bathrooms: There are 2x bathrooms directly outside the lifedrawing room. They will both be made gender neutral for the duration of the event using GN bathroom signs.
- Noise: There is a quiz on the bottom floor during the event - it isn't usually very noisy. During the event we will play music.
- Assistance: If you require a friend/carer/assistant for this event please contact tommymahertraining@gmail.com and they will be provided with a ticket
- Booking a seat: Need to be near the exit or the bathroom? Email to reserve a seat.
- Cost: Please note that free tickets will be added to this event as they become available. If cost is a barrier please get in touch.
Groundrules
- Please arrive promptly. There will be no entry to the room once modelling has started - if you are late please wait in the bar and enter during the break.
- Do not comment on other people's bodies - even if it's something you consider a compliment!
- Be especially mindful not to comment on model's bodies. It's okay to mention a particular pose you found interesting or have general chit chat about modelling and drawing but not to make any kind of comment about a model's body. There will be plenty of opportunity to thank and celebrate our models throughout.
- Absolutely no photography.
- Racism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, albelism, misogyny and all forms of oppression will not be tolerated. If your attitude or behaviour makes someone uncomfortable you'll be asked to leave - opportunity for discussion and mediation will be available at a later date, after the event so you'll be asked to leave your email.
- Before attending please ask yourself: what forms of privilege am I carrying and how can I take responsibility for and handle that privilege with mindfulness? For white attendees, you may find this resource helpful: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack
- This event is new! It's a work in progress. There are already a lot of things that can be improved for next time, most essentially, finding a free/low cost room that's wheelchair accessible - if you have suggestions, connections or ideas that you'd like to share you can do that directly by emailing tommymahertraining@gmail.com or by taking part in the evaluation survey that will be shared after the event. Thank you.
