Can’t make it up to this years Edinburgh Festival? Fear not, as we have a day of fantastic Edinburgh previews from award winning acts, all set in a fabulous members bar in Covent Garden with huge sofas, excellant roasts and delicious cocktails.
3pm: Rhys James: Snitch
The boy from Mock the Week (BBC Two), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), The News Quiz and star of Rhys James Is... (BBC Radio 4) returns to Edinburgh. I'm not being hyperbolic when I, the editor of this website, tell you that Rhys James is my favourite comedian in the world. 'Sickeningly talented... never more than a few seconds away from another punchline' **** (Time Out). 'Very funny' **** (Scotsman). 'A cut above' **** (Independent). 'Flip your head back, laugh out loud, clap spontaneously, snort uncontrollably and pee your pants funny.' ***** (EdFestMag.com).
4.30: Nick Helm: Phoenix from the Flames
After six years away from Edinburgh and ahead of his national tour, Helm is back at the Fringe with a full Edinburgh run of his new show to remind the world what they’ve been missing out on and will be previewing just for you. Resurrected from the ashes, come and witness two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee and international-treasure-in-waiting shaking his ass, singing songs and righting wrongs. You don’t deserve this...
'The man is brutal, but by AC/DC he's talented with it' ***** (TheLatest.co.uk). ‘Pretty f*cking amazing. A true comedy daredevil’ **** (Time Out).
6pm: Sarah Kendall: Paper Planes
Multi award-winning comedian Sarah Kendall previews her brand-new Edinburgh show, a spellbinding hour of storytelling. Paper Planes is the latest offering from the writer and star of the acclaimed Radio 4 series Australian Trilogy. Stories that are by turns moving, funny, and usually a bit depressing in places. Double Writers’ Guild of Britain Award winner. Double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee. BBC Audio Drama Award winner.
'Phenomenal storytelling, funny and soulful by turns, this is comedy that restores your sense of wonder' (Chortle.co.uk). ***** (Fest). ***** (BroadwayBaby.com). ***** (Skinny).
7.30pm: Glenn Moore: Love Don't Live Here Glenny Moore
'Glenn Moore' (List) follows up last year's Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination with a new hour of 'brilliantly original' (Chortle.co.uk), 'blissfully silly' (Guardian) jokes. He used to have a very different job to this, and now he's finally brave enough to spill the beans about it.
**** (Guardian) **** (Chortle.co.uk) **** (Evening Standard) **** (List).
As seen on Mock The Week, Stand Up Central, The Stand Up Sketch Show and as heard on Absolute Radio.
