Google is actively helping Israel increase its capacity to wipe out Palestinians. It's firing employees who speak out against it, smearing the people publishing research about it, covering up Israelās crimes and removing evidence of them.
If, like me, you're up to your eyeballs in Google products, and you'd rather be up to your knees, or just your toes, join this 1-hour videocall.
This is basically ābody-doublingā, and we'll spend the hour:
- introducing ourselves informally (names, pronouns, access needs, de-Googling actions you're going to take)
- taking actions to switch away from the Google products we each use (for example, one person might research alternatives browsers, another might set up a new email address, and another might edit their online accounts so they no longer need Google logins)
I'm Taz (she/her), and I'll host the videocall. I don't represent an organisation, I'm not a professional activist or tech expert, and I'm not looking for you to be either. You just need to be someone who wants to reduce their dependency on Google, and who thinks doing it with others might push you through the stress and boredom of doing it. Read my longer letter.
By signing yourself up to this one-hour small group videocall, you'll start or continue your own de-Googling efforts. This is not the only thing we can do to untangle ourselves from the genocide economy. But it's one thing.
Want to get in touch? Use the options on OutSavvy or check my letter for contact details
- The videocall will likely be on Disroot. Don't worry if you have no idea what this is - I just about do. I'll share the videocall link with participants nearer the time. You won't need to download any apps or log in to any accounts to join the videocall, you will just need to open the link in your browser. If you have suggestions for videocall platforms or settings that are accessible for you or others, please let me know.
- I am literally just a private citizen who's horrified by Israel, our own politicians and many companies. I have no connection to Palestine (except attending protests), no special tech skills, and no links to related activists or groups (e.g. No Tech for Apartheid). If you do have those connections and links, and you want to advise, suggest changes, participate or support this effort in any way, please get in touch!
- There is also a a Signal group called āš Dumping Google together'. People in the group use it to to ask questions, circulate resources and share their own de-Googling successes. I also share the videocall link to people in this Signal group, even if they haven't signed up to the videocall on OutSavvy. If you're interested in that Signal group as well as / instead of joining this event, check my letter for more info.
- Any other questions, ideas, needs or suggestions (except for debating Palestinian liberation)? Please get in touch!
Love, and free Palestine š
