THROUGHOUT HISTORY, QUEERS HAVE FOUND INGENIOUS WAYS OF ‘TALKING’ TO EACH OTHER
JOIN DAN DE LA MOTTE AND LIL WARREN FOR THIS BRAND-NEW WORKSHOP, CELEBRATING HISTORICAL QUEER COMMUNICATION
Get your tongue around ‘Cant’ - the subculture language of the Mollies in the 1700s, will you be bona at picking up a bit of Polari, the saucy queer London dialect from the decades before decriminalisation? Learn the notorious ‘hankie code’ and brush up on your brolly (or parasol) work.
Once you learnt the ropes and tropes, can you make your own contemporary words or symbols?
This event is part of a whole day celebrating Queer London heritage - join Dan and Lil in the morning for a Queer Tour of Abney Park Cemetery. The day is generously supported by the Grand Camp Maisie Fund and is produced by Steph Gill.
This event will take place in the Community Room at Abney Park - next to the cafe.
