Power to the People is a workshop where we will learn to utilize humor for self expression, building confidence, taking up space and releasing serotonin for women, non-binary people and trans people of colour. Come make yourself laugh!
Whether you're curious about comedy, want to be more confident in public speaking, are in a moment where you feel you could really benefit from being able to weaponize the power of comedy or just feel like getting silly - this is for you.
We will explore methods for generating material from life experiences and get practical by embracing the power of performance (hopping on the mic optional, but come on… live a little) We may give you a small amount of homework to do ahead of the workshop to help make the most of our time together.
Taught by Kemah Bob and Kate Cheka
Kate Cheka :
Kate Cheka is an artist whose primary creative medium is human emotion, either trying to make people laugh (comedy), think (philosophical musings) or feel (storytelling). She has travelled extensively, studied in four different countries and performed stand-up in over ten. Born in London she grew up in the West Country and has lived in Berlin and Buenos Aires as well as Delhi and Dar es Salaam. Described as having ‘stylish comedy delivered with a great blend of joy and disdain’ she started comedy to spite an ex who once said ‘I thought you were more fun’.
Kemah Bob:
Kemah Bob (she/they) is a comedian from Houston, Texas now based in London who values comedy as a powerful tool for self expression. She founded The Femmes of Colo(u)r Comedy Club with one intention: to create a joyful and empowering experience. She has supported Hannah Gadsby, Nish Kumar, Desiree Burch, Jess Fostekew and The Guilty Feminist on tour. Her TV work includes QI, It’s A Sin: After Hours, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club (ITV), 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (C4), Richard Osman’s House of Games and more.
