Ahead of Poole Pride 2026, join us for an introduction to ideas of ‘queer nature’, and a creative writing workshop with filmmaker and artist, Daniel Baker-Wells, at Lighthouse, Poole.
The event will include:
- a chance to learn more about the Queer Nature Club and explore and share ideas of ‘queer nature’
- the opportunity help us devise plans for activity in Dorset in the summer (including Queer Nature Club-led visits to reserves)
- participate in optional creative writing exercises
- share your own knowledge, ideas, and / or creative work if you wish
- an exploration of Poole Park
- hear about and join in with plans for a new textiles banner for future pride events (including Poole Pride 2027!)
'Queer nature' is based on the idea that gender, reproduction, sex and sexuality are fluid and expansive in the natural world.
We will explore these ideas together with some examples of the beautiful diversity of queerness: from lesbian gulls to gay matriarchal monkey communes, gender-changing trees, non-binary plants and self-cloning insects….
And then we'll take a wander together around Poole Park, stimulated with some gentle and optional writing prompts; before returning to the Lighthouse to write, discuss & share.
You are welcome to bring and share your own experiences, writing or other creative work you're developing.
This event is for the LGBTQIA+ community, friends & allies, & anyone interested in exploring nature through a ‘queer' perspective.
The event will be as fully accessible as possible: including step-free access; a relaxed atmosphere; and an optional approach to any exercises or sharing.
Places are free, but please do reserve a spot, as spaces are limited and we can let you know where we'll be meeting.
