Dr Cathy Jaquiss of Rainbow Migration and Allan Briddock of One Pump Court Chambers will present a lecture about the presentation and litigation of LGBTQ+ asylum claims in the UK.
Cathy will present findings and reflections on her PhD research, which is about how the concepts of space and affect inform LGBTQ+ asylum litigation. This includes insights into how subtle forms of hostility can impinge upon lawyers’ ability to present LGBTQ+ cases; how lawyers engage with problematic expectations of LGBTQ+ people; and how lawyers harness emotions of anger and hope. Allan will go on to reflect on how the findings of Cathy’s research could inform the litigation of LGBTQ+ asylum claims, and legal practice in general.
This event will also be available to attend online - a Teams link will be sent to you in advance.
For those attending in-person at Willkie’s offices, lunch will be provided afterwards.
