We've had a lot of requests for a daytime queer socials - moreg relaxed, somewhere you can actually hear each other. So here it is.
On the afternoon of 30th May, we're gathering at The Graveney and Meadow in Tooting for a few hours of collage, conversation and connection. Come as you are, leave with something you made and (hopefully) some new queer friends!
Here's how it works: you'll be given a spread of materials, magazines, coloured paper, scissors, glue, plus some words for inspiration to get you started. Then you just... play. Cut, arrange, stick, chat. There's no right or wrong way to do it, no experience needed, and absolutely no pressure to make anything "good." The collage is simply there for you to play and explore whilst you chat.
This afternoon is led by Hannah Silvers, the founder of LSW, who you may or may not know is an experienced collage artist and silversmith/jeweller (@foundandforged.hannahsilvers on Instagram). She'll be on hand throughout to get you started and keep things flowing, but this isn't a class- it's a social with materials for you to play with!
The pub opens onto a large garden, so there's plenty of space and lots of natural light. The environment has background music, but quiet enough for you to chat and get to know eachother. The bar will be serving drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and as always there's zero pressure to drink anything at all because we know the importance of alcohol-free spaces.
LSW was founded in 2023 because we believe the South London's queer community deserve more low-key, genuinely connective spaces; events that feel comfortable rather than performative, where you can turn up solo and leave feeling like you belong somewhere - this is your community. This is one of those more intentional events.
Whether you're looking for new mates, a creative outlet, or just a lovely Saturday afternoon with fellow FLINTA queers, we've got a seat (and a glue stick) for you.
What to expect:
- All materials provided – magazines, paper, scissors, glue, and words for inspiration. Just turn up.
- No experience necessary – this is about connection and play, not perfection. Also super welcoming for anyone who has never tried creative activities, or sees themself as not-so-creative. With that, you're also welcome to observe and chat rather than partake. Colouring pages also provided for those who'd rather not collage. As always, no pressure.
- Support and guidance throughout - you'll be provided with inspirational words to get you started. There are options for a more structured activity, or a more free flowing one - playing card collage, artwork-style or zine-style. You'll be taught the difference and supported with whichever one (or more) you'd like to try.
- A welcoming, FLINTA-focused space – designed for lesbian, queer, non-binary, intersex, trans+ folks. Allies always welcome as long as inclusivity and safety remain the priority.
- Afternoon event, no loud music, not a late night – exactly the kind of event you've been asking us for.
- A beautiful, community venue – The Graveney and Meadow is light, airy, and opens into a large garden. Bar open throughout.
- Intentionally low cost tickets - community-driven events, accessibility prioritised.
