Come with Malwen on a journey exploring our inner and outer ecological landscapes. The event includes an exploration of the dancing body and the sacred lands of Brithdir Mawr, looking at the infinitely diverse relationships that make our universe tick. By meeting the non-human beings around us, we will see examples that demonstrate the inherent queerness of our planet, bringing queer perspectives to question our preconceived ideas about our wild world. Everyone is welcome!
10:00-10:30 Arrive at Brithdir Mawr. Drop off any food and bags in Lle Dysgu and help yourself to a cuppa.
10:30-11:30 Introduction to Malwen. Our mission, who we are and where we are up to.
[15 min break before next session]
11:30 - 13:00 Workshop 1 - Queering Contact Improvisation led by Andromeda. Weather permitting, we will make our way out onto the land to find the perfect spot to connect with the Earth and each other. In this eco-somatic workshop, Andromeda creates space for participants to explore contact improvisation [contact not mandatory]. With a strong consent practice as the foundation, this workshop is for everyone, from experienced dancers and movers, to those that are less confident and less experienced, even folk that have never experienced this before. Through a queer lens, Andromeda will guide participants to explore solo movement, partner/group dancing and engagement with the non-human. Ultimately co-creating with all that are present, a playground that honours the sacred, the silly and our connection to our environment.
13:00-14:00 Shared lunch
Please bring vegan food to share, if you are able.
14:00-15:30 Workshop 2 – Queer Eco Walk led by Izzy Mcleod. Izzy is a scientist and artist focusing on queer ecology, and a particular fascination with fungi. They're often found leading groups of people around parks and woodlands to look at moss, edible plants or trees and will wax poetic about rot if you let them. Together, we will take a walk around the beautiful lands of Brithdir Mawr and examine the diverse, wonderful and queer ecology we find ourselves surrounded by!
15:30-16:00 Closing circle. A space to share highlights from the day and stand back to look at the connections we have made.
Remember something to drink and appropriate footwear. We will take plenty of breaks throughout the day. If you do not wish to participate in certain parts of the event for any reason, that is totally fine! Your body and your needs come first, always.
