Deconstructing Maps with Sonia E. Barrett
!! This Workshop is for 16 - 25 year olds, Participants under 16 are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian !!
Join us for QUEERCIRCLE's latest young people's workshop guided by the artist Sonia E. Barrett.
In this workshop, Sonia will ask participants to explore how we are related to the environment around us, through deconstructing and remaking maps.
What does it mean to de-centre ourselves and attend to everything that flows in the landscape? How can we attend to the desires of air, water and microbes in the soil? And what might they desire?
16-25 year olds are invited to spend time cutting up maps to make these possible pathways visible and to talk about what it could mean to us. This is a space for creative exploration, learning, and connection, where participants can try new techniques, share inspiration and engage with their queer peers and allies.
Sonia E. Barrett is a cis-gendered black artist who has been holding space deconstructing maps as colonial tools for several years in Africa and Europe. https://www.sebarrett.com/
