This July, Lost Signal Cinema Club brings Francois Truffaut's classic revenge tale THE BRIDE WORE BLACK to Burrito Buoy.
After the accidental murder of her husband on their wedding day, a widow (played by Jeanne Moreau) leaves home with a plan to enact revenge on the five men responsible.
Undoubtedly an influence on Kill Bill (despite Tarantino's insistent claims of never having seen it…), THE BRIDE WORE BLACK is a Hitchcock-inspired revenge thriller that was disliked by critics upon release. Based on a novel by William Irish (a pen-name for Cornell Woolrich, who was also the author behind the short story that inspired Rear Window), this is a stylish homage to the Master of Suspense himself. From its lavish costumes to a soundtrack by Bernard Herrmann (composer for many of Hitchcock's best known films, including Vertigo and The Birds), this is a beautiful and macabre work that deserves to be seen and appreciated.
Runtime: 107 mins. Cert: 12.
