Join us for an in-conversation around the past, present, and future of Hackney Women's Football Club with founder Joanie Evans and player Grace Duggan, chaired by Chris Paouros.
Hackney was founded in 1986, during the tense political climate leading up to Section 28 - a time when starting an openly lesbian team was an important act of visibility. Forty years on, questions about who gets to be visible in football are live again, this time around trans inclusion and the ongoing backlash.
This event draws connections between then and now: exploring what it took to be out in the 80s, the fights the club fought along the way, and where visibility in women's football sits today.
