Same queer space. Different pace.
We turn familiar queer dance floors into gentle spaces to breathe, rest and connect. For when the party isn’t what you need, and wellness studios don’t feel like home.
Permission to Rest is a gentle, guided breathing session designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your body and create space to rest.
Together, we’ll explore simple breathing practices to support settling and regulation, gradually doing less before moving into guided rest.
There is nothing to get right.
No expectation to perform or share.
No experience needed.
You’re welcome to move, change position, keep your eyes open or take a break at any point. There’s no expectation to stay still or perform calm. This is a neurodivergent-friendly space.
If you’re looking for queer community at a different pace, or simply somewhere you can show up exactly as you are, you’re especially welcome here.
🧺 What to bring
Wear warm, comfortable layers.
Please bring your own yoga mat.
If you don’t have a mat, we have a limited number available. You can reserve a yoga mat for £1 when booking and we’ll have it waiting for you at the session. The £1 helps towards the cost of transporting equipment to and from the venue.
If the cost is a barrier, please get in touch and we’ll happily reserve one for you at no cost.
Sofas and chairs are also available, and the practice can be done seated or lying down.
You’re welcome to bring anything else that helps you feel comfortable, such as a blanket, cushion, eye mask or ear plugs.
⏳ Timing & arrival
Doors open: 7:15pm
You’re welcome to arrive between 7:15pm–7:25pm to settle in and get comfortable.
The session begins at 7:30pm and finishes at 8:30pm.
To help maintain a calm environment, doors will close shortly after we begin.
Afterwards, you’re warmly invited to stay until around 9:00pm for a relaxed chat and a low-pressure way to connect with others.
You’re equally welcome to head straight home after the session. There’s no expectation to socialise.
🌈 About the space
Our sessions take place in familiar queer venues, reimagined as softer spaces for breath, rest and connection.
This session centres LGBTQIA+ people, and allies are welcome to attend with care and respect for the space.
Guided by Kathryn from The Permission Space, a queer, neurodivergent breath coach with a gentle, trauma-aware approach.
Spaces are intentionally kept small to support a calm, low-pressure environment.

Accessibility
The venue is located beneath Love Affair Basement on Hackney Road.
The main entrance is accessed via 12 steps, including several spiral steps, with a handrail on one side.
An alternative entrance on Long Square Street (also the fire exit) has seven steps with a handrail and leads directly to the level where the toilets are located.
There are three toilet cubicles: two with accordion doors and one slightly larger cubicle with a sliding door.
Unfortunately, the venue does not have step-free access. As the building is locally listed, structural changes such as a lift or ramp are not currently possible. We understand this means the space won't be accessible to everyone, and we're working towards offering additional events in fully accessible venues.
