The Deeps (FILM SCREENING)
In the swampy, trashy world’s end of the subtropics, a group of outcast artists rescue a stranger from drowning. Whether by accident or their own hand it isn't clear, but they set out to give their new friend a reason to live. Traversing demolition yards, protests, underpasses, and each others’ beds, prophecies of romance and revolution creep in at their edges, alongside wildfires and floods. Dubbed ‘queer climate change realism’ by Huw Lemmey, this unauthorised, unfunded feature was shot in ten days on a phone camera, and tells a libidinous story of choosing to stay alive.
