What does a medieval mystic have in common with fungi, animal sex, cyborg bodies, early science and feminist worldbuilding? Quite a lot, as it turns out.
Created alongside Luisa-Maria MacCormack’s solo exhibition Subtile Matter, FLP Archive Module 01: From Medieval Mysticism to Posthuman Feminism — Queer Ecologies and More-than-Human Worlds brings together nine lectures from the Feminist Lecture Program archive into a brand new Module, accessible at over 40% off their usual archive price.
Moving between mysticism, science, classification, gender, ecology and interspecies life, the Module asks how we came to understand bodies and the natural world in the ways that we do — and what happens when those systems start to come apart.
This module questions; who gets to describe the world? How are categories made? Why do certain kinds of knowledge become authoritative? And what other ways of thinking, sensing and imagining might still be possible?
The recording of Luisa’s online Artist Talk about the making of Subtile Matter, hosted by curator Ellie Lace, will also be included as the opening piece of the Module at no additional cost — creating a bridge between the physical exhibition and the research that surrounds it.
ABOUT FLP ARCHIVE MODULES
This is a brand new venture for FLP, exploring how our growing archive can become an even more powerful resource for research, self-directed study and feminist education.
FLP Archive Modules are curated journeys through the Feminist Lecture Program archive, bringing lectures from different disciplines, historical periods and areas of research into conversation around a shared set of questions.
Each Module offers a structured route through the FLP Archive — creating new connections between ideas, lecturers and subjects across our incredible backcatalogue. This Module is divided into four Chapters, with new lectures released approximately every three weeks between October and December 2026.
While our main weekly programme is currently taking a short break as we undertake the MAMMOTH task of processing more than 80 previous FLP lectures for the archive, this first Archive Module is part of a much bigger experiment in how that archive might be used in future, and we can't wait to get started!

Dr Noam Yadin Evron’s Hildegard of Bingen: Mystic, Artist, Composer, Pioneer turns to Hildegard’s extraordinary position as mystic, theologian, artist, medical practitioner and natural thinker, asking what her visionary authority allowed her to say and do.
Minna Salami’s From Andro-Africanism to Europatriarchy: Decoding Masculine Power examines how masculine culture continues to shape beliefs, narratives and social imaginaries, tracing the ways patriarchal power is reproduced through contemporary authoritarianism, populism and systems of thought.
Together, these lectures begin the Module by asking who has been able to describe, organise and interpret the world — and how particular systems of knowledge come to acquire authority.

Lucy Cooke’s Bitch: On the Female of the Species challenges centuries of sexist thinking about sex roles, sexual identity and behaviour in animals, drawing on zoological research to rethink what “female” can mean.
Ripley Ashke Mandanis’s Everyone is Trans: Leslie Feinberg & the Reconstruction of Queer History examines how definitions of transness have changed, been erased and reconstructed over time, and how categories of gender can both enable and constrain political movements.
Anna Titov’s Cyborgs, Transcorporeality and Volatile Bodies: Ecofeminist Theories of Embodiment turns to Donna Haraway and other ecofeminist thinkers to explore bodies as porous, unstable and entangled with the environments around them.
Together, these lectures ask what happens when the bodies being classified refuse to remain inside the categories created to contain them.

Luisa-Maria MacCormack’s Queer Mycologies: A Feminist’s Guide to Fungi traces a feminist history of our interspecies relationships with fungi, moving through foraging, cooking, cultivation, research and fungal life cycles themselves.
Ama Josephine Budge Johnstone’s Intimate Ecologies: A Black Feminist Erotics for Interspecies Un/Worlding draws on Black feminist, queer and Native theory, postnatural studies and decolonial environmental humanities to rethink the binary between “the human” and “nature” and speculate towards liberatory interspecies futures.
Together, these lectures turn towards intimacy, entanglement and the strange possibilities that emerge when the human is understood as only one participant within a much larger living world.
Chapter 4 — Feminist Worldbuilding: Imagining Other Worlds

Dr Kate Pickering’s Feminist Religious Worldbuilding in Contemporary Art explores how contemporary artists adopt and transform ritual, origin myth and devotional cultures to create feminist, queer and ecologically oriented worlds, asking what happens when truth, fiction and belief begin to blur.
Her lecture Julian of Norwich: Bodily Visions of a Medieval Mystic turns to an earlier form of visionary world-making, exploring bodily mystical experience and the possibilities it offered for reimagining received structures of religious authority.
The final Chapter asks how fiction, mysticism, ritual and imagination might become tools for constructing other ways of understanding — and inhabiting — the world.

The Feminist Lecture Program recieves no external funding and is kept going entirely by our incredible students and community (that's you)! There is an option to pay full price for the module, if you'd really like to support our work!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
All nine lectures in Archive Module 01 are pre-recorded.
There are no required live sessions, coursework, assessments or weekly deadlines. The Chapters have been arranged to create a journey through the material, but you are free to watch at your own pace.
The Module is divided into four Chapters, with new lectures released approximately every three weeks between October and December 2026.
When you book, your Eventbrite Online Event Page will contain a link and password for a private viewing page hosted on Vimeo.
You’ll use the same link and password throughout the entire Module.
The Subtile Matter Artist Talk recording will be the opening piece of material in the Module, followed by Chapter 1 on 19 October.
Each time a new Chapter is released, we’ll add the lectures to the same Vimeo page and send you an email to let you know they’re ready to watch.
Your Chapter emails will also contain the relevant reading lists and resources selected by each lecturer.
You do not need a Vimeo account to watch the lectures.
WHAT IF I JOIN AFTER THE MODULE HAS STARTED?
That’s absolutely fine.
Tickets will remain on sale until 14 December 2026, when Chapter 4 is released.
If you book after the Module has begun, you’ll immediately receive access to everything that has already been released and will then receive the remaining Chapters as they become available.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WATCH?
Once a lecture is released, it will remain available until 31 January 2027.
Earlier Chapters will remain available as later ones are added, so you do not need to rush through the material.
Please note that access will close on 31 January 2027.
Because this Module already provides a considerably longer viewing period than our normal archive rentals, we will not be able to offer extensions beyond this date. Please make sure you have watched everything you would like to see before access closes.
ARE ANY OF THESE LECTURES LIVE?
No. Archive Module 01 is built from the FLP archive, so all nine lectures included in your Module ticket are pre-recorded and can be watched in your own time.
Alongside the Module, however, we’ll also be programming two brand new live FLP lectures exploring subjects closely connected to this research: one on seventeenth-century writer and philosopher Margaret Cavendish, and one on artist-naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian.
These live lectures are not included in the Archive Module ticket and will be available to book separately at our usual Pay What You Can price.

IS THE SUBTILE MATTER ARTIST TALK INCLUDED?
Yes.
The recording of Luisa-Maria MacCormack’s online Artist Talk about the making of Subtile Matter, hosted by curator Ellie Lace, is included in the Module at no additional cost.
The talk will include a visual walkthrough of the exhibition and introduce many of the ideas and questions explored throughout the Chapters that follow.
PLEASE NOTE, ACCESS TO THE LIVE VERSION OF THE SUBTILE MATTER ARTIST TALK (airing 15th October), is NOT included. Live tickets must be bought separately at our normal PWYC price.
DO I HAVE TO WATCH EVERYTHING IN ORDER?
No.
The Chapters have been deliberately curated to build a larger conversation across the Module, so we recommend following the suggested order if you can, but there is no required pace.
Dip in and out, follow particular threads, disappear down reading-list rabbit holes or watch the whole thing from beginning to end — it’s entirely up to you.

Access to Archive Module 01 will close on 31 January 2027.
The individual archive lectures may still be available separately through the FLP archive afterwards, but the curated Module and its accompanying materials will no longer be accessible through the private viewing page.
We will not be able to offer extensions beyond this date.
REFUNDS
Because this FLP Archive Module is a digital programme providing access to protected recorded material and lecturer-owned intellectual property, we are unable to offer refunds once a booking has been made.
Your ticket gives you access to the complete Module as it is released, including nine archive lectures, accompanying reading lists and the Subtile Matter Artist Talk recording, with access remaining open until 31 January 2027.

TWO FULLY FUNDED BURSARY PLACES
Archive Module 01 is already offered at more than 40% off the usual combined archive price, reducing the cost of nine lectures from £135 to £75.
Even so, we know that £75 will still be inaccessible for some people. Because accessibility has always been central to FLP’s Pay What You Can model, we’re offering two fully funded bursary places for people who would genuinely benefit from the Module but would otherwise be unable to afford it.
These places are open to anyone — you do not need to be a student, academic, artist or researcher to apply.
We won’t ask you to provide proof of income or financial circumstances. Applications are trust-based, and we simply ask that you apply only if the cost of the Module would genuinely prevent you from taking part.
