ARTISTS TALKS WITH THE FEMINIST LECTURE PROGRAM
After the success of our curatorial program and exhibition series at Nunhead Cemetery Chapel, in collaboration with Friends of Nunhead Cemetery, The Feminist Lecture Program is pleased to invite back some participating artists for a discussion about their artistic practice!
Hosted by FLP Director Luisa-Maria MacCormack, this mini series shines a light on the inner workings of contemporary female and non-binary artists working across painting, sculpture, performance and interdisciplinary practice whose work engages questions of embodiment, ecology, mythology, queer theory, disability, material experimentation and alternative ways of knowing - artists building practices that sit slightly outside established routes into the art world.
Each session offers an in-depth look at an artist’s work, process and influences. The series is open to an international audience of artists, students and anyone interested in contemporary art and is accessible via FLP’s pay-what-you-can ticket structure.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
GIULIA FASSONE
Giulia Fassone is an Italian-British post-disciplinary artist. She is also a gardener and a chef, and the materials and processes of these professions — plants, soil, food, fermentation — feed and inspire her artistic practice. Her spade often unearths whimsical findings, and she regularly picks up stray objects on her bike errands. Those found objects materialise how the past haunts the present, how memory is not just retrieval, but creation. Through introducing organic and often unstable materials to her work — butter, bread dough, potatoes — she amplifies the alchemical, vibrant quality of all matter.
Her recent works reference the archaeological finds from bogs across northern Europe: sacrificed human bodies, musical instruments, clothes, preserved hair and fingernails. Weaving her own narratives into this larger history, these works imagine – with poetic license – what bog bodies could tell at a time of disenchantment and ecological collapse.
Giulia set up Ruderal Projects, an art collective and curatorial platform for artists engaged in radical discourses around 'Nature' and the 'natural'.

LUISA-MARIA MACCORMACK
Luisa-Maria MacCormack is a London-based artist, educator and cultural producer. She is the founder of The Feminist Lecture Program, an international pay-what-you-can public education platform established in 2018 that has hosted nearly 200 lectures by artists, academics, curators and researchers exploring feminist art histories, visual culture, ecology, embodiment, gender politics and contemporary theory. Alongside commissioning and curating the programme, she hosts the weekly live sessions and oversees the development of a growing digital archive designed to expand access to feminist education beyond traditional university structures.
