Walking the city at night is a workshop led by walking artist Alisa Oleva, taking the form of collective night walks.
Across two nights, Alisa invites participants to explore walking scores and the urban choreography of darkness. Together, participants will walk the streets, engage with various walking scores, explore how the city moves us and how we move it. The workshop will involve moving as a group, but also working individually and in pairs. Alisa will introduce tools such as walking scores, parkour methodology and walking listening.
The first workshop will focus on sounds and listening with our feet, and the second night will explore movement and walking scores.
About:
Alisa Oleva is a walking artist based in London who works within the spaces and streets of the city. She explores the politics of public space, how the city moves us and how we move it, urban choreography and urban archaeology, traces and surfaces, borders and inventories, intervals and silences, passages and cracks. She creates one-to-one and collective performances, walking scores, personal and intimate encounters, gatherings, soft parkour sessions, walkshops, soundwalks, and audiowalks.
Horizontal Practices is a strand of LPS programming dedicated to promoting peer-to-peer learning and non-hierarchical spaces for conversation. These take form as discursive events, professional training and curated guest workshops.
Horizontal Practices responds to the need for and importance of space for experimental modes of exchange that sit outside the context of institutional ‘education’ frameworks. As with the rest of the LPS programme, queer and feminist practices and those which sit in-between visual art and theatre are at the core of Horizontal Practices.
