A Loophole for Care: Rewriting Our Terms & Conditions
Workshop with Mio Kojima from Futuress, Sunday 15.11.26, 2–3.30pm (online)
Whether we study at a university, collaborate with others in a self-employed setting, or work in an institution, we are surrounded by formal protocols that shape how we act and come together. Codes of conduct, for example, articulate shared values and expectations; meeting practices such as check-ins and pronoun rounds create formal structures for communicating our needs and identities; and working contracts and student regulations inform us about our rights and obligations.
These formal rules profoundly shape what values and needs are centered in working and learning contexts, yet there’s seldomly timespace for discussing and collectively shaping them. How do they actually make space for different lived realities? How can we center care, attentiveness, joy, and relationality?
In this workshop, we rethink the rules and regulations that shape our working and learning contexts by smuggling our values into official language. Together, we will rewrite existing protocols and regulations, imagining how they might better reflect the ways we want to work, learn, and relate to one another. Our collective rewritings will be published as a small zine.
Please bring a regulation or protocol that shaped (or continues to shape) how you work, study, or come together in any sense and that you would like to re-write. It can be a code of conduct, a website statement, your work contract, or anything else that can be considered official language.
More information will be sent out to attendees ahead of the workshop.
