Talk: A Space without a Use with Claudia Kappenberg
Talk: A Space without a Use with Claudia Kappenberg, Saturday 21.11.26, 2pm
This event begins with an intervention, A Space without a Use. Audience members are invited to enter a participatory work and dwell in a shared space. From within this interlude, I reflect on uselessness as a performance strategy and as a disturbance of one system by another. Catherine Clément's syncope, a necessary lapse that unsettles the demand for productivity, is brought into conversation with Lucy Lippard's Trojan Horse: can work that resists effectiveness be critical, and what does an offer of "nothing" do inside a culture of purpose?
The talk will start promptly at 2.00pm, with the initial intervention taking place just outside of the gallery.
This event is organised as part of Is It Cake?, the first season of programming by external &.
