Homosexuality is still illegal in over 70 countries, and punishable by death in 12 jurisdictions. Mass arrests of LGBTQ+ people in Nigeria and Uganda persist, as does the persecution and disappearance of gay men in Chechnya. Worldwide, trans people continue to experience discrimination and violence across all areas of life.
Join us for an exhibition and charity auction of queer protest art on Thursday 16th April at Ugly Duck in London. The exhibition will feature a selection of artwork from artists across the world responding to global LGBTQ+ issues.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Kaleidoscope Trust.

About Homopromo
Homopromo is a queer art initiative which harnesses the power of art to change the world through positive protest. Established by James Kemp in 2014 in response to Russian anti gay laws prohibiting the “promotion of homosexuality”, a draconian measure used by conservative politicians to gain popularity with far right groups and embolden those who wished to persecute LGBTQ+ people in Russia. The mission was simple, if Russia wouldn’t ‘promote’ homosexuality then Homopromo would, filling the world with more glorious gay art whilst raising money for gay rights charities. Homopromo has continued to spread a message of love and tolerance, broadening its remit with successive exhibitions to include a wide variety of LGBTQ+ issues.
About Kaleidoscope Trust
Established in 2011, Kaleidoscope Trust works to uphold the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) people in countries around the world where they are discriminated against or marginalised due to their sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression. Since 2013, the organisation has hosted the Secretariat of the Commonwealth Equality Network (TCEN), which provides a unique space for LGBT+ advocates to challenge inequality in the Commonwealth, including by advocating for better national and regional policies, laws, and priorities of Commonwealth governments.
