Queer Minds Workshop Series: Ghost Hunters #1 – walking tour & writing session
A walking tour and writing workshop visiting sites of former iconic queer bars, clubs and social spots, tracing the footsteps (and two-steps) of LGBTQ+ partygoers of years gone by. Sneak through the backstreets of London to stop and visit the spots where queer elders and ancestors once organised, debated, partied and convened in intimate third spaces. Various sensorily-inspired writing prompts– and sharing of verbatim stories of real people’s experiences in former venues– aim to stimulate creative reflection and communication with our queer ghosts.
About the facilitator:
malakaï (they/them/kaï) is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, curator and producer from pre-gentrified north-east London.
Led by curiosity and care, kaï creates and interrogates through an unapologetically Afroqueer lens; they work in the spaces between literature, installation, theatre and performance, whilst their sound practice is encapsulated under the moniker anxious.selecta. Operating from a space of subversion and nonlinearity, malakaï employs unconventional forms that disrupt notions of time and space– orbiting around ideas of creolisation, Black interiority, hood surrealism, and magic within carceral geographies.
Currently writing their debut book of poetry and essays, and developing a scripted series for television, kaï is represented for their writing by KAB Literary.

🌟🌟🌟 Important information about our free events / cancellations! 🌟🌟🌟
For events like this, spaces are limited so we ask that people only reserve a spot if they can definitely make it and cancel their ticket at least 48 hours ahead of time if they can no longer attend. This is so we can make sure as many people as possible can join us. Failing to show up without prior cancellation takes a spot from someone else, and it is important that we are all considerate of people who may be on the waitlist.
Accessibility:
We will send an email ahead of time with more details on how to get there and accessibility info. If you have any questions please email queerminds@selmind.org.uk.
We hope to see you there!
