The ‘Ask the Artist’ series mobilises the wide ranging and inspiring artists that have been commissioned by Bold Tendencies. The session is for those who may be considering a career in the arts and for those interested in the life and work of an artist.
About the artist:
This online session will explore Lakhrissi’s work and commission through discussion of euphoria as a contained, pressurised state within the body, rather than a spectacle or celebration. Instead of expressing euphoria outwardly, the work stages it as a latent force, accumulating in silence before a possible rupture.
Conceived as a colossal chrysalis, the sculpture lies closed and elongated, designed to contain a body without revealing it. Its scale sits between the human and the more-than-human — a vulnerable body, an architectural shell and a dormant threat.
The work becomes a site of radical becoming: queer, political and potentially monstrous, holding a body under pressure, metabolising excess, anger and desire in a state of arrested euphoria. Transformation remains suspended and unresolved, gesturing toward ecstasy without ever fully arriving.
