Whitechapel Freedom Walk
There are few areas of London with as rich a history as Whitechapel. As the heart of the Jewish community in the early 20th century, it played a critical role in the Battle of Cable Street, with the local population gathering at Gardiner's Corner, before many headed to Cable Street.
But there is much more to explore in Whitechapel. From the Bell Foundry, to Altab Ali Park, it has often been the focus of events that have echoed far beyond the East End.
The Freedom Walk will celebrate this multi-ethnic, multi-faith community, from the 16th century to today, and the many struggles for equality and justice the community has fought for.
The route is flat and accessible, with many places to stop along the walk for refreshments.
