Join artist and FLP Director Luisa-Maria MacCormack for an online artist talk exploring the making of her solo exhibition Subtile Matter, hosted by curator Ellie Lace.
The Feminist Lecture Program is delighted to present a special online Artist Talk with artist and FLP Director Luisa-Maria MacCormack, following her solo exhibition Subtile Matter at Rabbet Gallery, Copeland Park, Peckham.
Hosted by curator Ellie Lace, this live conversation will offer an in-depth look at the three years of research and making that have culminated in Subtile Matter, moving through the exhibition’s watercolours, sculpture, ceramic, latex, glass and installation works.
Luisa and Ellie will take audiences on a virtual walkthrough of the show, discussing individual works alongside the histories, texts and ideas that have shaped them: from seventeenth-century science and the extraordinary writing of Margaret Cavendish to queer ecology, natural history, botanical illustration, votive objects, scientific collections and the unstable boundaries between bodies and species.

This Artist Talk also marks the launch of a new experiment for The Feminist Lecture Program.

This series brings together nine lectures from across six years of FLP research, alongside two new live lectures, organised into four thematic chapters exploring bodies and classification, feminist histories of science, queer and interspecies ecologies, mysticism and feminist worldbuilding.
For the first time, audiences will be invited to move through the FLP archive as a curated body of research — bringing different lecturers, disciplines and histories into conversation with one another. During the Artist Talk, Luisa will introduce the collection and some of the connections between the exhibition and its accompanying programme, including forthcoming live lectures on seventeenth-century writer and philosopher Margaret Cavendish and artist-naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian.
The recording of this Artist Talk will then become the opening piece in the Archive Lecture collection as it launches, creating a bridge between the physical exhibition and the research that surrounds it.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Luisa-Maria MacCormack is a London-based artist, educator and cultural producer whose practice moves between drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. Her work draws on biology, anatomy, archaeology, natural history, feminist philosophy and speculative fiction, with a particular interest in unstable bodies, queer ecologies and the systems through which human beings attempt to classify and understand the living world.
Her solo exhibition Subtile Matter brings together three years of work alongside a new body of sculpture and installation. Taking the form of a speculative Wunderkammer, the exhibition moves between anatomical specimens, votive offerings, botanical forms, hybrid bodies and handmade reliquaries, asking what kinds of knowledge might emerge if the boundaries between bodies, species and categories were allowed to remain porous.
Alongside her studio practice, Luisa is the founder and Director of The Feminist Lecture Program and a founding member of London Drawing Group. Through FLP she has developed an international programme of feminist education, lectures, exhibitions and research, alongside a growing digital archive.

Ellie Lace (she/her) is a London-based curator interested in the ways knowledge accumulates, travels and takes shape. Her practice brings disparate texts, references, collections and fragments into relation, using archival and mapping practices as tools for worldbuilding.
Currently, she is the curator of the exhibition programme at The Bear in Camberwell. Recent projects include Spaces to Daydream, a co-curated series of workshops and exhibition at hArtslane gallery in June 2026. Alongside her curatorial practice, she works as Archive Manager at Anish Kapoor Studio.
