The Cinephiles are back with a screening of Portrait of a Lady on Fire and a new exciting venue - The Arzner, London's first LGBTQ+ cinema! Providing us with a safe space which will be exclusively ours for the screening PLUS a gorgeous bar serving 2 for 1 cocktails from 4-6pm!
SYNOPSIS:
France, 1770, Marianne, a painter, is hired to create a portrait of Héloïse, a reluctant bride, for a marriage arranged by her mother. Marianne secretly paints Héloïse while posing as her walking companion. Furtive glances and heated debates between the two women gradually lead to an intoxicating, yet forbidden, romance.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire, directed by Celine Sciamma, is a deeply mesmerising and arresting portrayal of queer love, the female gaze, and ultimately the representation of women and how we live together.
