Event description:
In this Utopias Salon we will be exploring both what our imagined futures could be and how we could get there, in collaboration with the London School of Solarpunk at The Common Press Dalston.
The evening will consist of a talk on utopian, ecotopian and science fiction as well as doing our own creative activities in order to envision new systems and worlds.
It will begin with a mini lecture followed by creative group exercises.
The talk will cover the history and background of ideas of utopias up until present day - informed by theories from Marx's ideas of metabolic rift to theories on Ecosocialism.
We will then in groups do creative activities such as answer questions from prompts about how we see our ecotopia to be, and how we envisage getting there.
After this we will talk as a group about our ideas, and then share any relevant communities, art or books we think others might find of interest.
Please feel free to stay afterwards and talk, get a drink or snacks at the bar.
Speakers:
Sophie Bernberg, a writer of autofiction and science fiction who has previously held Utopia Salons at the Feminist Library, House of Annetta and Burning Nest.
Oli from the London School of Solarpunk, a group imagining new ways of living collectively through art and experimental free education.
