I’m Here & I Love You: Book Launch with Kyoko Takenaka ft Tobi Adebajo
The Common Press is proud to host the London book launch of I’m Here & I Love You by artist and photographer Kyoko Takenaka.
Join us at The Common Press Dalston on Wednesday 23 September, from 6:30pm–9pm, for an evening of conversation, photography, performance and readings exploring Kyoko’s experience of being diagnosed with Stage 3B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Through photography, interviews and a series of guiding questions, I’m Here & I Love You offers an intimate reflection on illness, identity, the body and the experience of living through a life-changing diagnosis. The evening will create space to engage with the work through a book discussion, alongside performances and readings from Kyoko Takenaka and Tobi Adebajo.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase a copy of I’m Here & I Love You, as well as a limited edition of tenugui towels made by Kyoko.

About Kyoko Takenaka
Kyoko Takenaka is a butoh dancer, musician, photographer, filmmaker, actor, and facilitator based between Turtle Island, London, and Japan. Centering their work in the in-between, they create work around diasporic longing as it relates to cycles found in nature, Japanese mythology, queer belonging, and the ethereal realm. Their name means “vibrations of sound child” in Japanese.
Their work has been featured on Nowness, HBO, the LA Times, BOMB Magazine, and Far-Near; performed and exhibited at the Lincoln Center, Autograph ABP, and venues worldwide. They've released two collaborative albums, Planet Q, and Wastewomxn, centering themes of queer liberation and Afro-Asia unity with artists of the African and Asian diaspora.

Accessibility: The Common Press Dalston ground floor is step-free. Unfortunately, the basement is not wheelchair accessible yet. There are 10 steps down leading to the basement.
